The Publishing Triangle is glad to announce that William Johnson is the winner of this year’s Publishing Triangle Leadership Award. Created in 2002, this award recognizes contributions to LGBTQ literature by those who are not primarily writers, such as editors, agents, librarians, and institutions.

William Johnson is a Brooklyn-based editor and arts administrator. He was editor of Mary Literary, an important LGBTQ journal, and in 2011 moved to the Lambda Literary Foundation, where he has held various roles for the past decade. Johnson oversaw two of Lambda’s most dynamic programs: the Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices, a weeklong residency designed to offer intensive and sophisticated instruction to selected writers; and Lambda’s web magazine, The Lambda Literary Review, which offers free content of interest (LGBTQ book reviews, author interviews, book news, etc.). He has also supervised Lambda’s Writers in Schools project.

In giving Johnson the Leadership Award, the Publishing Triangle salutes how, in these roles and beyond, and in his overall generous spirit, he has been a mentor, impresario, and shaper for LGBTQ literature, fostering the books of our community’s authors. Johnson will receive a prize of $500 with this award.
