A Generous Spirit is a collection of stories, essays, and poems by the late lesbian Mohawk author and activist Beth Brant. Throughout this anthology, Brant voices a powerful, rich Indigenous experience with its realistic prose and clever myth-tales. Her work prompted author Kim Anderson to remark: “Beth Brant gave us Indigenous feminism and Indigenous queer theory even before we had a name for these practices, all wrapped up in the most beautiful storywork.”

A Generous Spirit: Selected Work by Beth Brant, edited by Janice Gould. Published by Sinister Wisdom, where the in-house editor of this book was Julie R. Enszer. A Generous Spirit is a finalist for the Ferro-Grumley Award for LGBTQ Fiction, administered by the Publishing Triangle and Ferro-Grumley Literary Awards; the winner will be announced on April 30.
